Tea on the side

I've been on the search for some new places for Gabe and I to go out to dinner besides the usual Taco Bell. In the midst of my search, I somehow came across Shangri-La, which is a tea and vegetarian cafe, the only one in Boise actually. I absolutely love tea and the lady that owns it is a certified herbalist, so it immediately caught my eye.  Anyways, I was a little reluctant to come here with my dad and Gabe because they are pretty much certified carnivores, but Gabe and my parents convinced me to go.  And I'm so glad we did because it was amazing!! Like no joke, my new favorite restaurant, everyone loved it!  It was a new place and we weren't sure what to order so we each ordered something that looked tasty from the menu and just shared with one another, while making lots of satisfied sounds such as "Mumm" or "Oh, that's great."  The verdict was that the pita sandwich and southwestern wrap were the best dishes.
The whole reason I wanted to go there was for all of the different types of tea, but man, the food totally topped the tea.  Don't get me wrong, those were also great, but the food was pure deliciousness.  If you live in Boise, you gotta go there like right this minute, it is that freaking good.  Plus, it's a family owned restaurant that buys most of the produce locally and everyone that works there is super nice.

Little Pieces of Life Week 1

This week, Gabe and I got iPhones, which are glorious by the way, and the camera on it is pretty legit and takes pretty sweet photos.  This is something that our old phones were definitely lacking.  Due to this wonderful addition to our new phones I've decided to do a post each week of the fun little pictures I take throughout the week.  Here it goes, for your viewing pleasure, my week in a few snapshots.

Gabe's birthday note to me.

Birthday cards from people who love me.

My friend, Alyssa, sent me these cute little robot window stickies for my birthday. Love them!

Gabe and I's smiling faces after we purchased our iPhones.

My walk home from school.

Jimi's face.

The book I have been reading all freaking month, very good but also very sad.

Awesome painting of Edward Scissorhands at the salon I go to.

Taking a stroll downtown.

Little Jimi and I watching Fringe.  Awesome show! If you haven't watched it, you need to start!

Raindrops and street lamps.

Gabe and I trying out some Indiana Jones hats. Gabe pulls it off much better than I do.

The Rents

The Snowden one. ha

First off, I would like to state that I have the most wonderful, awesome and loving parents ever!  Now that thats taken care of, i'll get onto our weekend.  My parents flew into Boise Friday for my birthday, exhibit A of why they are so great. Unfortunately, Gabe had work that evening so I dropped him off at work and then hauled butt over to the airport to pick them up. Despite Gabe being absent, my parents and I had a delightful evening together. We got taco bell, my favorite, and went to a movie. Now, winters in Boise aren't the most exciting because its freaking cold outside so your activities are limited.  First we went to a yummy Vegetarian and Tea restaurant, more on that in a different post, then went up to the mountains to play in the snow. Later that evening, we planned to go out to a really nice dinner for my birthday but changed our minds and went to one of our favorite Italian restaurants, Papa Joe's. It was perfect! We sat next to the fire place and talked about funny random stuff while nibbling on yummy food.  Papa Joe's was actually what I really wanted. I'm not really a big fan of fancy restaurants and all the hustle and bustle of waiters running around and people being packed in a small area. I guess that's just the hermit in me coming out. ha. I can honestly say that my parents are my favorite people to be around, Gabe thinks so too. They are just so loving and kind. I'm so glad and so blessed to have them as parents.

SNOW!

The first day of last semester, I wrote a blog and took pictures of my walk to school. It looks like this:
I thought it would be fun to start doing this every first day of the semester. Todays trip looked like this:

This is my " I should have bought a parking pass face."

It was just a tad bit colder this semester but no big deal, walking in the snow is fun, right? For me, the walk was actually fun or funny. I couldn't stop laughing because I was the ONLY person walking to school and freezing my butt off.  I'm pretty sure the reason for my positive outlook was a result of having my iPod to distract me from the fact that I was verging on hypothermia.
If you're curious and need a good traveling mix, here is my morning playlist.

Frozen stroll Playlist
Glee - Rumour Has It/Someone Like You
Stars- Dead Hearts
Silversun pickups- Panic Switch
AFI- Death of Seasons
A Day to Remember- All Signs point to Lauderdale
Jimi Hendrix- All Along the Watchtower
 Florence +Machine -Comsmic Love
Anberline- Art of War
& lastly
The Civil Wars- Poison & Wine

Despite the titles of some of the songs, the playlist is actually pretty upbeat.

My last two classes were cancelled so I didn't have to walk home, thank freaking goodness, because Gabe could pick me up before he left for work.  Being the nerd I am, it was kind of a let down that my last two classes were cancelled, because I was really looking forward to them.  They are both the classes I was most  excited about this semester, Personalities Psych and Abnormal Psych.  Oh well, at least I get to stay home and drink sleepy time tea.

Baby E

My friend, BreeAnn and I, have been friends forever and when I say forever, I mean forever.  We went through all the important stages together.  The really awesome rolly backpack stage, the awkward braces stage, that last 7 years...yeah, I had a pretty jacked up grill.  We more recently moved on to the more grown up stages, like getting married and now.............

Bree is going through the best stage yet, the mommy stage and I thought I would tag along.  Bree and her husband, Matt, had their beautiful baby girl, Elaine Victoria Hope, on December 27.  This weekend, Gabe and I made our (what seems like monthly) trek to Burley to see the little bundle of joy or Hope I guess. ha Now, Elanie is my first niece so this is big deal. Gabe and I are Lanie's adopted aunt and uncle.  We got to spend the day with sweet Baby E and her familia and it was full of baby joy.

This awesome little guy is Eli and he is our friend Shalis' nephew. He is pretty much the best.

The happy parents

Little Pieces of Life

Ever since we moved and all the holidays are over, life has been a little slow over at the Lawrence residence. It's not bad for a little while but after reading two books and watching copious amounts of Grey's Anatomy, I am way ready for spring semester to start again. I literally can't wait! Today, I got the syllabus for one of my classes and I almost peed myself from the excitement. ha. Oh well, only one more week to go and then we are back to studying our lives aways and I can hardly wait!

Oh and I totally made those book flowers above! Yeah, they are pretty freaking awesome, I know.
